Calendar: The Next Five Days


10 a.m. - 3 p.m. Check out the spring plant sale at the G.R. Paine Horticultural Centre at 2324 East Wellington Rd. The sale runs until the end of June.

10 a.m. - 5 p.m. The Nanaimo Art Gallery presents Ian Garrioch: Universe in a Jar, a collection of artworks from all phases of the local artist's career. The event is free at the gallery's campus location at 900 Fifth Street.



10 a.m. - 5 p.m. Threads of Memory: a lifetime explored through textiles is an exploration of textile work made over four decades. The exhibit at the Nanaimo Art Gallery is in memory of Sandra Lou Weeks who was born in Nanaimo in 1941. The event is free and runs until June 30 at 150 Commercial St.

3: 15 - 4: 45 p.m. Drop-in hockey is available at the Nanaimo Ice Centre for children aged 7 to 12. Admission is $2.

4 - 6 p.m. A free drop-in weekly session at the Nanaimo Harbourfront Library helps people with any technology-related problems, from learning to download ebooks, to figuring out laptops, tablets and social media programs.

4: 30 - 8: 30 p.m. Nanaimo Newcomers' Club will meet today at the Bowen Park lower picnic shelter for a June picnic. For more information contact Liz Masters 250-585-5563.

7 - 9 p.m. Learn to alleviate excessive worrying, anxiety, depression and panic attacks in Stop Chasing Your Mind, a small weekly meet up run by a certified therapist. Suggested donation is between $10 and $20. The group meets at Island Therapy on Princess Street in Nanaimo. For more info call 250-754-9988.



8 - 10 a.m. Nanaimo Economic Development Corporation hosts Branding, Marketing and Sales, a panel seminar featuring local experts. The event is at the Benson Ballroom at the Coast Bastion Hotel. To register email peter.mcgee@

7: 30-9: 30 p.m. Nanaimo Horticultural Society hosts a meeting with guest speaker Roger Foucher, a wild food educator. The event is $3 at the door for non-members at Brechin United Church, 1998 Estevan Rd. For more info contact Gail Hudson at 250-245-2823.



8 a.m. Nanaimo Kennel Club hosts a four day dog show beginning this morning. Come and watch obedience showings, junior handlers finals, National Poodle Specialty and a walk for canine cancer. There is no charge for entry to the event at the Beban Park Centennial Building. 7 p.m. NAC Arts Achievement Awards are on tonight to provide aid for tuition, supplies and equipment for those to further their studies in the arts. The event is at the Nanaimo Arts Council Gallery at 259-4750 Rutherford Rd.



10 a.m. - 2 p.m. Check out the downtown Nanaimo farmers' market at the Pioneer Waterfront Plaza on Front St. There will be food, crafts and live music.
