THURSDAY, JULY 11

Various times The Island Classic Horse Show opens in Nanoose and runs until July 14, at the Arbutus Meadows Equestrian Centre, 1515 East Island Highway.

1 - 3 p.m. Children can sift for artifacts in the Nanaimo Museum's junior archaeologist program. The drop in activity runs every Thursday through July and August. Adults are $2 and children are 75 cents. For more information call 250-753-1821.

9: 30 p.m. Emily Spiller plays with Man and Minx at Simon Holt, 6582 Apple-cross Road.

FRIDAY, JULY 12

10 a.m. - 2 p.m. The weekly Nanaimo Downtown Farmers' Market opens today. Peruse a variety of booths ranging from fresh produce to handcrafted gifts. The free event is at the Pioneer Waterfront Plaza on Front Street.

Dusk Coastal Community Credit Union presents the Sunset Cinema series over six nights. The movies are free and start at dusk. Tonight is 'The Croods' at Maffeo-Sutton Park, 50 Arena Street.

6 p.m. Free summer movie night at the Harbourfront Library with 'Stand by Me', 'Jaws' and 'Endless Summer'.

7: 30 p.m. Island plays live at the Corner Bistro.

8: 30 p.m. - 12: 30 a.m. TGIF hard-hitting blues dance with Summer and the Sinners at the Branch 10 Legion. Tickets $12 in advance, $15 at the door.

 

SATURDAY, JULY 13

8 - 10: 30 p.m. Battle of the Knuckle Dusters rollery derby, with a half time show, 50-50 draws, derby swag and prizes. At the Nanaimo Ice Centre, 741 Third St. $10 donation.

2 p.m. Gates open on the Quality Foods Canadian Open Sandsculpting Competition and Exhibition at Parksville Beach. For more information call the Parksville Beach Festival Society at 250-951-2678.

 

SUNDAY, JULY 14

8: 45 a.m. The Bastion City Wanderers Walk meets at the front lobby of the Howard Johnson on Terminal Ave. Walk starts at 9 a.m. For more information call Ethel Hansen at 250-756-9796.

10 a.m. - 3 p.m. Hot dog and used book sale for the Nanaimo Dream to Travel Club, at Country Grocer in South Nanaimo, 82 Twelfth St.

10 a.m. - 3 p.m. 'Brits on the Beach' car show on Transfer Beach in Ladysmith. For more information call 250-756-0452.

2 - 3: 30 p.m. Nanaimo Foodshare presents Arzeena Hamir, an agrologist who specializes in organic food production and sucessfully proposed that Richmond become a GMO-free zone. At Beban Park Social Centre, 2300 Bowen Rd.

 

MONDAY, JULY 15

7 p.m. Manglewood, Teri Puckett and David Bitonti play the Dinghy Dock Pub. Tickets are $20 which includes return ferry and the show.
