10 a.m. - 5 p.m Nanaimo Quilter's Guild tri-annual quilt show happens Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Members will show off their best work to the public and judges. Admission $8, at Beban Park Recreation Centre.

8 p.m. - midnight Five Note Funk instrumental night at the Corner Bistro, #1-75 Front St. Saturday night is vocal night with Sydney Needham. Free entry.



10 a.m. - Noon Gabriola hosts its farmers market at the Gabriola AGI Hall, South Road.

10 a.m. - 2 p.m. Kids Expo at Country Club Centre with face painting, crafts, entertainers, giveaways and a bouncy castle. The event is free.

12 - 4 p.m. Nanaimo BC SPCA hosts an open house. Veggie burgers, salads and refreshments available by donation. The vent is free at 2200 Labieux Road.

5: 30 p.m. Eat your fill at the Nova Scotia Lobster Boil at Lantzville's Costin Hall. Steak, lobster, salad and dessert are available for $30. There will be live entertainment and a silent auction to fundraise for Nanaimo Christian School.

7 - 10 p.m. Anela Kahiamoe Hawaiian music at Acme Food Co. at 14 Commercial St.



10 a.m. - 2 p.m. Black Track tour of Nanaimo's coal mining sites with Tom Paterson. Tickets $30 one person, $25 for two or more. Duration 4 - 4.5 hours. For more information call 250-714-0377.

3 - 4 p.m. Family Yoga at OmTown Yoga Studio, 719 Fitzwilliam St. Entry $5. Props and music create fun atmosphere.

7: 30 - 9: 30 p.m. From Belfast to Beijing A Cappella concert fusing Celtic and Eastern music. At St Andrew's United Church, 311 Fitzwilliam St. Tickets $15, student $10.
