TUESDAY, MAY 7

Various times Nanaimo Rotary Club host their spring used book sale at Nanaimo North Town Centre until May 12.

10 - 11 a.m. Innovation Island hosts a free information session today about what it is they do, how they do it and what programs they offer to help local businesses grow. Coffee provided at event, #209 335 Wesley Street. For more info call Jamie Knight at 250-753-8324.

3 - 5 p.m. Check out the city's teen road safety and bike skills workshop at John Barsby School. Call 250-816-3377 for details. The event is among the last in the Youth Week line up. Teens can also check out floor hockey at Oliver Woods at 7 p.m.

6: 30 - 8 p.m. Free SepticSmart workshop at Nanoose Library Hall, 2489 Nanoose Rd. Register at 250-390-6575.

 

WEDNESDAY, MAY 8

4 - 6: 30 p.m. The Bowen Road Farmers market. A food-oriented market that connects the community with regional farmers. At the Beban Park fairground.

7 - 8: 30 p.m. Health essentials talk with Dr. Norm at the Lifehouse Chiropractic Studio, 1710 Jingle Pot Rd. Call 250-7400333 to reserve.

7: 30 - 9: 30 p.m. Guest speakers will be available to answer questions about gardening during a Nanaimo Horticulture Society meeting. Dick Johnson, of Johnson's Farm Market and Diana Meagher of Diana's Garden Centre, will be on hand. Adults are $3. Event is at Brechin United Church on 1998 Estevan Rd.

 

THURSDAY, MAY 9 7 -9 p.m. Austin Vickers, producer of People vs The State of Illusion, presents a screening of his film and Q and A at Malaspina Theatre. Tickets $20 at the door, 900 5th Street, Vancouver Island University.

 

FRIDAY, MAY 10

9: 30 a.m. - 9: 00 p.m. Nanaimo Potter's Co-op Pottery Sale happens today at Country Club Centre. Wendy Cyrenne, and 21 other potters, are prepared to show and sell. No admission and every purchaser is entered into a draw for a pottery item.

7 p.m. Costin Hall Tidesman benefit concert with guest stars Quinn Etheridge, Rosie June and Jayden Holman. Tickets $15 at Tom Lee Music and the Lantzville Market.

8 p.m. Daragh Fitzgerald play Fibber Magee's on Selby St. For more information call 250-591-0650.

 

SATURDAY, MAY 11

10 a.m. - 2 p.m. The Nanaimo Rhododendron Society host their annual plant and truss show at the Beban Park Centennial building. Free.

11 a.m. - 2 p.m. Vancouver Island Symphony launch day at the Nanaimo airport. Meet conductor Pierre Simard, ice cream, Aunti Bobbi the clown and more. For more information: www.vancouverislandsymphony.com.

2 - 4 p.m. Talk with Miles Olson, author of 'Unlearn, Rewild: Earth Skills, Ideas and Inspiration for the Future Primitive' at Beban Park Social Centre, 2300 Bowen Rd. $5 donation.
